School Year Programs |
Art Play offers two programs: the 3-year old program, which is on Tuesday and Thursday mornings, and the 4-year old program. The 4-year old program is offered at two different times. You may choose either Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday afternoon or Monday, Wedneday, and Friday morning. See the registration page for more information.
Our program offers an excellent teacher student ratio. We strive to maintain a 1:5 ratio in the 3-year-old program and a 1:6 ratio in the 4-year-old program. Art Play school offers a playground and two spacious classrooms that house the following interest areas: blocks, puzzles, play dough, dramatic play center, sensory table, book area and art center.
Vital to our program is the art area where children can experiment with materials and gain satisfaction from their creative endeavors. Art activities allow children to make discoveries that express their thoughts, perceptions, and moods. In allowing children to freely explore art materials, teachers give specific comments on artwork to validate a child’s effort and interest. We also vary our curriculum based upon the interests and needs of the children as well as new interests of staff (e.g. we just embarked upon a unit focusing on geography inspired by the personal interests of one of our teachers).
Art Play fosters social responsibility in a safe environment where teachers set the tone for acceptable behavior. We have a strong focus on the children’s relationships with one another and us. By modeling positive social skills, we encourage social growth and kindness among the children. Additionally, they are encouraged to express themselves in social situations and with adult help they grow socially and emotionally with their peers.

Summer Camp 2010 |
We are offering six 1 week sessions of camp for 4, 5 and 6 year-old children. Children can attend 2, 3, or 4 days each week. We are located at 524 Allen Avenue in the Unitarian Universalist Church. Our setting provides a great outdoor space that includes our Cedarworks playground, large sandbox, an area for wheel toys, and a large open space as well as ample shady areas. Indoors, we have two spacious classrooms that house the following interest areas: blocks, puzzles, playdoh, a dramatic play area, sensory table, book area and art center. Each day begins with a meeting where we introduce the children to one another. Our schedule incorporates outdoor and indoor play as well as story time.
Our summer program begins on Monday, June 21. Camp will be from 8:45-12:15 every day and children can bring their lunch daily. Please do not send peanut butter as we have children with nut allergies. Each day we provide a healthy snack for the campers.
